Your Being Heard PowerOne cannot control the extent to which one’s point of view or idea will be heard and listened to presentations or meetings. Much depends on attendees, the time of day and the subject under discussion.
Yet there are some things we can do to enhance our power to be heard and to encourage others in attendance to want to share our views.
One important thing we can do to bolster our being heard power is to gain a reputation in the group not as a criticizer of ideas but as a partner in developing solutions, a facilitator of new proposals who makes them better through discussion and collaboration. Criticizers and impeders who get in the way through internal politics or position are plentiful. Facilitators are rare, better heard, and well-regarded.
There is another path to being heard and listened to. A road that rests on the kind of information that one can now bring to the attention of others in the organization. It is based on telling them things they don’t already know about the global economy they live in and the changes taking place daily that affect their work and lives.
Those whose work brings them close to the new frontiers of technology and the global marketplace will be listened to if they exchange what they learn and open these frontiers to others.
